About the Artist:
Ray, is a retired chemistry professor and researcher (a career spent primarily at Canisius College, Buffalo, NY and The Foxboro Co., Foxboro, MA). A member and past president of the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, he has been painting as a pastime for most of his life. Since retiring however, he has become serious about learning the craft and has attended workshops given by Skip Lawrence, Frank Webb, Tom Lynch, Tom Sagouris, Judi Wagner, Ted Minchin, Lee Boynton, and Peter Spataro.
Sailing and clamming the Great South Bay of Long Island in his younger years, he has divided the later ones between New England and Western New York.
He paints what he knows best:
- the rolling hills of Western New York, buried in snow or green with summer
- the varied coastal and inland landscapes of New England, with its brilliant autumns and bright summers
- the thrills that come with skiing the big ones
- and with a sailors love, things of the sea
